Hours: Full Time 

Salary: As per Broughton Manor School Teachers’ Pay Scale 

Job Purpose: 

  • To teach PE and Games across the age ranges from 3 – 11 ensuring a high level of enjoyment, participation and skill
  • To develop a full and competitive fixture programme that meets the needs of all pupils in the Prep Department. 
  • Expertise in the coaching of major Games (a selection of Rugby, Hockey, Football, & Cricket) is preferrable. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities 

  • Promote all sports equally and ensure the highest standards are set both on and off the field. 
  • Co-ordinate and lead in the organisation and delivery of School events including boys’ fixtures, sports days, clubs, swimming lessons etc. 
  • Take on the role of form tutor in Prep Department as required by the Head of Prep

General duties:

  • To show skills in teaching a wide range of ages and abilities up to Year 6
  • To foster and support the School’s rules, aims, values and ethos. 
  • To assist with pastoral care, assemblies and duties as required
  • To realise the responsibility for Health and Safety problems/risk assessment and the oversight of the safety of all pupils; and making pupils themselves aware of safety. 
  • To ensure that pupils wear appropriate, regulation clothing. 
  • Attendance at INSET meetings. 
  • Attend relevant departmental and staff meetings, as reasonably requested. 
  • Take active note of the guidance in the Staff Handbook and the school’s professional expectations.
  • Willingness to fully immerse in the life of the school through availability for school trips, and in different areas of school life. 
  • Willingness to teach other subjects as required

Coaching, Teaching & Learning

  • To assist in managing pupil learning through effective teaching and coaching. 
  • To set high expectations for all pupils, to deepen their knowledge and understanding and to maximise their achievement. 
  • To assist in ensuring continuity, progression and cohesiveness in all teaching and coaching. 
  • To use a variety of methods and approaches to match the range of pupil needs and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils. 
  • To plan and coach Games sessions and teach P.E. lessons throughout the year for pupils of all ages and abilities. 
  • To work effectively as a member of the PE & Games Department
  • To develop and maintain effective methods of communication with all colleagues, pupils and parents. 
  • To work with teaching staff to teach/coach/lead extra-curricular sporting activities (lunchtime, after school as directed). 
  • To participate in relevant matches, tournaments, tours and visits to other events in accordance with the School’s policy for Educational Visits. 
  • To encourage pupils to develop a sense of team spirit with emphasis on cooperation and commitment to teams, one another and the School. 
  • Assist in officiating matches at all levels. 
  • To support the drive of the Whole-School initiative relating to Health & Fitness and personal well-being.
