Curriculum

“Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon.” – E.M Forster

A successful primary education ignites a love of learning in all pupils and launches them on a life-long learning journey that shapes, enriches and defines the rest of their lives.

At Broughton Manor Preparatory School we are committed to inspiring, nurturing and developing children’s innate curiosity in the world around them. It is this most precious attribute that enables children to make the most of every opportunity that is presented to them, to see every experience, every challenge they face and everybody they meet as part of their learning journey and as a crucial piece in the jigsaw puzzle that builds the unique picture of their life.

Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, but is not constrained by it, we believe that every child is unique, and it is our job to facilitate children’s learning – not dictate it. Our gifted teachers are like the conductors in an orchestra helping each individual player contribute their unique part to the experience of the whole class. We encourage children to find ways of learning and of expressing themselves that work for them so that each child feels valued and validated as they develop their own personal ‘learning DNA’.

"Leaders in the early years plan a stimulating and varied curriculum which encourages children to learn and play actively."
ISI June 2025

Children in our early years setting learn through experience, play and discovery and as they progress into a more structured learning environment, we aim to sustain that sense of awe and wonder and the freedom to learn as much from the inevitable mistakes as they do from their successes, turning stumbling blocks into stepping stones.

The Broughton Manor Tapestry is a framework that is designed to break down the silos that separate different parts of the curriculum. We want children to discover for themselves that what they have learned in maths lessons will help their understanding of thigs they learn in geography or music and vice-versa. In a tapestry different threads, stiches and materials are used to create the whole picture and this is how education should work with all the elements combining to create something that is so much more than the sum of its parts.

This is what your children will experience at Broughton Manor.
