Reception

In Reception, all our children thrive and make excellent progress. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure a seamless transition through thorough handovers with previous key adults, getting to know our children and their families, settling in visits, and by understanding what genuinely excites and motivates each child. This ensures they’re eager to come to school and learn every day.

Our small class sizes and committed staff are crucial for understanding each child’s unique learning style and interests. This allows us to provide appropriately challenging and engaging learning experiences. In Reception, we build strong foundations in Phonics, Reading, Writing, Handwriting, and Mathematics and half termly themes that excite and encourage children to explore the world around them and exceed The Early Learning Goals.

"We are very grateful for the policy of always sincerely considering the well-being of the children".
Reception Parent

Every child benefits from daily reading and individual or small group work with a teacher. Children also develop excellent social and communication skills, learning about diversity, celebrating our differences, turn-taking, fairness, and how to become independent, confident learners. Our classroom is thoughtfully designed to offer a balance of adult-led and child-initiated learning. Activities are planned to encourage exploration and extend understanding, whether it’s taking orders in the café, experimenting with floating and sinking, or creating a masterpiece at the arts and crafts table – children are constantly building upon their knowledge.

Beyond their class teacher, our children enjoy specialist-led lessons in PE, Music, Drama, and Computing. Reception pupils regularly engage in gardening, utilize our beautiful outdoor areas, find calm in our sensory room, enjoy library story times, cook in our Pre-Prep kitchen, and develop core skills in our computer suite.

We believe that parental partnership is at the heart of learning. We regularly host events that immerse you in your child’s educational journey and provide opportunities to celebrate our families. Parents are consistently impressed by our young children’s musical and singing talents, and their confident performances. You’ll have wonderful chances to see your child shine at special occasions like the Nativity play, Easter Bonnet Parade, and Sports Days. We’re excited to meet you and your child to discuss how we can best support their learning journey.
